FAQ
How is hourly pay calculated from annual salary?
Divide annual salary by (hours per week × weeks per year). For example $52,000/year ÷ (40 hr × 52 wk) = $25/hour. Adjust hours per week if your contract differs from the standard 40.
Why does daily pay assume 5 days?
Daily salary in this calculator assumes a standard 5-day working week. If you work a different schedule (e.g. 4 days, shift work) calculate hourly first, then multiply by your actual hours per day.
How do French or German workers convert salary to hourly?
Use the country preset: France 35 hours/week, Germany 38 hours/week, UK and US 40 hours/week, Australia 38 hours/week. The calculator updates automatically when you click a preset, or enter your contract hours manually.
Does this account for taxes?
No. This is a gross salary converter — it shows pre-tax amounts in different periods. Take-home pay depends on your country's tax brackets, social security contributions and personal deductions, which vary too widely for a universal tool.
How many weeks per year should I use?
Default is 52 (full year). Use 48 if you take 4 weeks unpaid leave, or 50 if you take 2 weeks. Salaried employees usually use 52; contractors and freelancers often use 48-50 to factor in unpaid time off.
Is the result accurate for freelancers?
For gross billing rate yes. Freelancers should also factor in unpaid time (admin, sales, sick days) — many target 1500-1800 billable hours per year instead of the full 2080, which means your effective hourly rate needs to be higher to hit the same annual income.
