Our mission
Nulumia builds calculators and converters that load instantly, work offline, and never collect your data. We are a small independent team who believe basic web tools should not require accounts, ads, or surveillance.
Our mission
Nulumia builds free, privacy-first calculators for everyday questions — from pet age and loan repayment to unit conversion and date math. We believe that small numerical tools should load instantly, work offline, and never ask for an account, an email address, or your location. The tools are free, the formulas are sourced, and the source of truth lives openly on this site rather than behind a paid tier.
Why we built the Pet Age Calculator
The original "one dog year equals seven human years" rule of thumb misses the mark for most species. A puppy reaches the equivalent of a teenager in twelve months; a tortoise raised in good husbandry can outlive its first human family member. We wanted a calculator that respects the actual biology — different curves for dogs and cats by size and breed, separate equations for reptiles and rabbits and small mammals, and an explicit lifespan window so owners can plan vet visits, diet changes, and end-of-life care with realistic expectations.
How we derive each formula
Every age conversion on this site cross-references peer-reviewed veterinary literature and the published guidance of the relevant species body — AVMA and AAFP for dogs and cats, ARAV for reptiles and amphibians, AAEP for horses, AAV for parrots and other birds, IBC for bettas, TFTSG for tortoises and freshwater turtles, and RWAF for rabbits. When two sources disagree we report the conservative range rather than picking a single point estimate, so the resulting human-age figure reflects both the median and the spread that real-world animals show.
Editorial team
Our editorial team aggregates peer-reviewed veterinary research, life-stage guidelines from species-specific veterinary associations, and lifespan data from longitudinal husbandry studies. Drafts are reviewed for factual accuracy against the cited primary sources before publication, and reader-reported corrections are folded back into the article on a rolling basis. We are not a clinic and the calculator is not a substitute for a veterinarian — it is a starting point for an informed conversation with one.
Privacy and data
Nulumia does not run third-party trackers, fingerprinting scripts, or behavioural advertising. The only persistent data the site stores in your browser is a language-preference cookie and any saved pet profiles you create yourself in localStorage — both stay on your device and are never transmitted to our servers. We do not log IP addresses to a database, do not sell aggregate usage data, and do not share anything with advertising networks.
Free forever
Every calculator on Nulumia is free to use without a sign-up, an email opt-in, a free-trial countdown, or a paid premium tier hidden behind the most useful features. We have no plans to introduce paid gates. If a tool exists on the site today it will still be free to use a year from now, and ten years from now, on the same URL.
Spotted an error?
If a formula looks wrong, a reference is out of date, or a translation reads awkwardly in your locale, we want to know. Corrections are reviewed by the editorial team and rolled into the next content update — usually within a week for factual fixes and the same day for typos.
How we ensure quality
Every formula on Nulumia is sourced from authoritative references and double-checked against trusted reference implementations. We list the source for every calculation so you can verify it yourself.
